Why I had an operation…

The title sounds corny. I know. Pardon me.

Okay this is for Karen and those clueless.

Well, I had a 15cm cyst growing in my right ovary and I had to get it remove. (Read Post Operation Blog to find out what happen to me during hospitalization hehe)

Well, every woman has a chance at ovarian cyst but cyst can also grow anywhere so even the male species are not spared.

"What is an ovarian cyst?

An ovarian cyst is a fluid-filled sac in the ovary. Many cysts are completely normal. These are called functional cysts. They occur as a result of ovulation (the release of an egg from the ovary). Functional cysts normally shrink over time, usually in about 1 to 3 months.

If the cyst doesn’t go away after several menstrual periods, if it gets larger or if it doesn’t look like a functional cyst on the sonogram, your doctor may want you to have an operation to remove it. "

Anyway for my dear lady friends out there, although I do not have much symptoms for cyst and I happened to chance on it, i did some research about the symptoms so if you happen to feel any of the below-mentioned, please go for a check with a gynaecologist.

"Symptoms of an ovarian cyst, may include:

  • Menstrual irregularities
  • Pelvic pain, a constant or intermittent dull ache that may radiate to your lower back and thighs
  • Pelvic pain shortly before your period begins or just before it ends
  • Pelvic pain during intercourse (dyspareunia)
  • Nausea, vomiting or breast tenderness similar to that experienced during pregnancy
  • Fullness or heaviness in your abdomen
  • Pressure on your rectum or bladder, difficulty emptying your bladder completely "

If you noticed, the symptoms can not be much different from the regular menstrual cramps. The best is to go for yearly checkup with your docs…..

We women sure do get into a lot of trouble. Whether we want it or not.

So take care my lady friends out there.

By the way I hope I am not scaring all of you and also I am not working on commission for any gynae (hehe). Purely out of concern for my friends.

P/S: Thanks Sharon, Anita and Karen for leaving a note earlier in the blog.
